About Habit

Habit is a software package that is used to present stimuli and collect data in a variety of habituation experiments.

Current Status

Habit 2000 and Habit X 1.0 run only on the Macintosh platform. It does not run natively on Intel based Macs. There are known problems when running on these newer macs (see forum for additional information and a way to share information, tips, etc.).

Work is currently underway to update Habit to run on current versions of MacOS, and possibly on other platforms, too.

Habit is currently maintained by the Infant Cognition Lab under the direction of Dr. Lisa Oakes at the Center for Mind and Brain at the University of California, Davis.

Obtaining Habit

You can obtain a copy of habit by clicking on the download tab. You will be asked to provide your username, a password (you can use these to login to this site in the future), and information about your affiliation.

History

Habit was originally developed for use in the infant habituation studies which are conducted in Les Cohen's Infant Cognition Laboratory at the University of Texas at Austin, and is in use in studies at several universities around the world. The original development of the Habit programs was supervised by Dr. Les Cohen and written by Dan Atkinson with the guidance of Harold Chaput and the help of many. The Habit programs are based upon the Habit software package originally written by Craig Dalton.
